Jakarta, 8 November 2024 - Despite the mandatory halal certification for all products in Indonesia, a significant gap remains in its implementation, particularly among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). According to the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (APRINDO), less than 1% of the country's 65 million MSMEs have obtained halal certification.

APRINDO Chairman Roy Nicholas Mandey highlighted the stark contrast between MSMEs and larger businesses. "While medium and large enterprises have a certification rate exceeding 90%, the number for MSMEs is significantly lower. Only around 400,000 MSMEs have secured halal certification," Mandey revealed.

To address this issue, APRINDO is intensifying efforts to educate MSMEs about the importance of halal certification and the procedures involved. Mandey emphasized the need for ongoing support and training programs. "We must provide continuous education and support, not just a one-time push," he stated.

The government and related agencies are also urged to play a more active role in promoting halal certification. By increasing consumer confidence in domestically produced food and beverages, these efforts will contribute to the growth of Indonesia's local industries.

It is worth noting that all products entering the Indonesian market have been required to have halal certification since October 18, 2024. However, MSMEs have been granted an extended deadline until October 17, 2026, to comply with the regulations.
