Jokowi Urges Kalimantan to Prepare for IKN Logistics

President Joko Widodo has called on regions in and around East Kalimantan to gear up for supplying logistics to the new capital city, Nusantara. These essentials include vegetables, poultry, rice, and fruits.

"Everything needs to be prepared. IKN is still under construction, and it might take another 10 to 15 years. This means provinces and cities surrounding IKN must be ready, for instance, to supply vegetables, poultry, and rice. If the supply is insufficient, then we'll have to get it from other provinces," Jokowi stated during his visit to Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, on Thursday (26/9/2024).

Jokowi emphasized the importance of sourcing as much as possible from within East Kalimantan and its surrounding areas. He believes this will significantly boost the local economy.

"If we can meet the demand from within East Kalimantan, supported by the surrounding regencies, for fruits, vegetables, rice, and other staples, it will truly benefit the local economy," he said, expressing confidence in a substantial economic growth for the region.

IKN Development: A Nation's Decision

Earlier, President Jokowi reiterated that the relocation of the capital from Jakarta to Penajam Paser Utara was a decision supported by 93% of the Indonesian Parliament, representing the will of the people.

Jokowi underscored that the development of Nusantara is not merely a presidential project but a collective decision of the nation.

"This is not just a decision of the President, but also a decision of all Indonesian people, as represented by all members of the DPR. So there should be no misconception that this is President Jokowi's project; it's not," he emphasized.

The President explained that the idea of relocating the capital had been a long-standing aspiration of Indonesia, dating back to the era of former presidents Soekarno and Soeharto. Jokowi's administration is simply executing this vision.

After careful consideration and field visits, Jokowi selected Penajam Paser Utara as the most suitable location for the new capital. The decision was made following a rigorous assessment of several potential sites, including Palangka Raya, South Kalimantan, and Mamuju, Sulawesi.
