President Jokowi Inaugurates New Smelter in NTB

In a significant move to boost Indonesia's mining industry, President Joko Widodo embarked on a working visit to West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Monday, September 23, 2024. The highlight of his trip was the inauguration of a state-of-the-art copper smelting and precious metals refining plant owned by PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) in Sumbawa Barat Regency.

Accompanied by key ministers, including Erick Thohir and Bahlil Lahadalia, Jokowi flew to NTB aboard the presidential aircraft. Upon arrival at Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport, he switched to a helicopter to reach the smelter site.

"The President will inspect and officially open the copper smelter and precious metals refinery of PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk.," said Yusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat.

A Strategic Investment

The newly commissioned smelter is a testament to PT Amman's commitment to Indonesia's development. With a projected capacity of processing 900,000 tons of concentrate per year, the facility is expected to produce 222,000 tons of copper cathode annually. Additionally, it will yield 18 tons of gold, 55 tons of silver, and 70 tons of selenium.

Environmental Considerations

To minimize its environmental footprint, PT Amman has partnered with PT Pertamina to ensure a steady supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the smelter's power plant. This collaboration is a significant step towards sustainable mining practices.
