Jakarta, 23 September 2024 – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Public Water Company (PAM) JAYA, has confirmed that the Jatiluhur 1 Regional Water Supply System (SPAM) project is on track. This ambitious project aims to significantly increase Jakarta's clean water coverage to 100% by supplementing the existing supply with water sourced from the Jatiluhur Dam.

As a National Strategic Project overseen by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, SPAM Jatiluhur 1 will serve seven sub-districts in Jakarta: Marunda, Rorotan, Cilincing, Cakung Barat, Cakung Timur, Ujung Menteng, and Pondok Kopi. The project boasts a capacity of 4,000 liters per second, sufficient to supply 300,000 new connections. Additionally, two distribution centers—Cilincing with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters and Pondok Kopi with 5,000 cubic meters—will be constructed to support the water distribution.

The initial phase of SPAM Regional Jatiluhur 1 is slated to commence operations in October 2024. With a total target of 16,800 household connections, 11,445 have already been installed.

In tandem with the project, PAM JAYA is expanding its pipeline network in East Jakarta to facilitate the water supply from SPAM Jatiluhur. This new network will cover 10 sub-districts, targeting 68,000 household connections. Notably, the installation of new connections in these areas will be free of charge, with only a refundable deposit required.

During a recent inspection of new connections in Pondok Kopi, Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, emphasized the significance of this project in providing clean water to residents and mitigating groundwater depletion, a major contributing factor to flooding. "This will help reduce groundwater levels and aid in our efforts to combat flooding," said Heru Budi.

In addition to the SPAM project, Heru Budi also visited the construction site of the Buaran III Water Treatment Plant (WTP), which is being built by PAM JAYA with a production capacity of 3,000 liters per second. This WTP, located in Kalimalang, East Jakarta, is expected to supply clean water to 250,000 household connections in five sub-districts: Makassar, Kramat Jati, Cipayung, Ciracas, and Pasar Rebo. Construction, which commenced in April 2023, is currently 69.9% complete and is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025.

PAM JAYA Director, Arief Nasrudin, highlighted the company's commitment to developing its human resources alongside infrastructure development. "We are focused on building a strong workforce through initiatives like our Management Trainee program," said Arief.
